Nightlife in Tokyo

Tokyo is a busy city. Day or night, tourists in Tokyo never run out of activities to do. Daytime is the perfect occasion to get familiar with Tokyo’s labyrinthine layout, and night is the perfect time to experience the good life in the city.

With over 80 dance clubs alone, the glittering nightlife spots in Tokyo can provide tourists with the best time of their lives. Nightclubs in Tokyo often resemble those in New York City. Tokyo’s clubs have come up with varying themes and cater to the different party styles that are enjoyed by locals and tourists. From disco to Latin groove, to rock and roll and house music, the nightlife in Tokyo is really an out of this world experience. It’s no wonder that many tourists go back to the city time and again to experience a fun-filled night out in Tokyo’s nightclubs.

When the Sun Goes Down, It’s Time for the Real Tokyo Experience
Tourists who are travelling to Tokyo for the first time might find it a challenge to find the right clubs. Keep in mind that there are four main locales where most clubs can be found. First is the Ginza shopping district, where high-end shopping malls abound. Many restaurants and coffee shops are also located here. Second is Roppongi, which houses many international-flavored dance clubs and pubs. Third is Shibuya where clubs for teenagers are found. Finally, the Shinjuku skyscraper district is where hostess bars are usually located.

Just like any other city, the nightlife scene in Tokyo abides by some rules and regulations to ensure a safe yet fun-filled night out for everyone. Nightclubs in Tokyo take every measure to ensure the orderliness and security of all party goers. This includes door staff or supervisors that are tasked to monitor partygoers and provide security around their premises. By following these rules and regulations below, tourists can enjoy safe night outs in Tokyo.

Minimum Drinking Age
Tokyo nightclubs require drinking guests to be at least 20 years old. Although night club officers face a nightly challenge of making sure that drinking guests meet the age requirement, a valid identification card is enough to ensure one’s compliance.

ID Requirements
This is somewhat related to the first rule. However, aside from being a reference document to determine the true age of partygoers, this will also let security staff identify the personal information of partygoers. Identification forms such as a driver’s license and a passport are acceptable IDs. However, student cards are usually not honored.

Don’t bring your car
Drinking and driving is definitely not allowed in Tokyo. Partygoers are encouraged to leave their car and use the extensive train system in Tokyo. Most trains end their service late at night and restart early in the morning.

Drink Sensibly
Partygoers must take it upon themselves to think about their welfare. Staying safe has a lot to do with responsible drinking. Tourists should only drink within their limits, and should drink a lot of water to keep themselves hydrated.
